For more than two decades, Alex Black immersed himself in the art of bartending, refining his skills and fostering a deep passion for hospitality. Originally hailing from Winnipeg, MB, Canada, Alex embarked on a journey across the country, gaining valuable experience in various establishments before settling in Vancouver, BC in 2011. Throughout his tenure on the west coast, he graced the floors of numerous premier restaurants and bars, solidifying his reputation as a leader in Vancouver's cocktail and hospitality scene. However, a recent relocation has led Alex to call Toronto home, marking the end of his influential tenure in Vancouver. With an impressive array of certifications and accolades, Alex earned recognition as one of Canada's most knowledgeable and certified bartenders. Noteworthy credentials include the Level 3 Diploma in Spirits from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), acknowledgments from the International Sommelier Guild, Beverage Alcohol Resource Group, and various others. Additionally, he held certification as an educator for WSET's spirits curriculum. Alex is sought after as a consultant and educator in the drinks and hospitality industry with most of his time over the past four years being devoted to his role as managing partner and cocktail director at both Laowai and Bagheera. Throughout their existence, both venues garnered numerous accolades, such as being named Canada's Best New Bar by Canada's 100 Best and receiving recognition as Canadian regional honorees for World's Best New Cocktail Bar by Tales of the Cocktail.
