Hannah Harradine
Owner, Down Home Farmhouse Restaurant
Hannah grew up in Barrie ON, moving to the Niagara region in her early 20s to study Child and Youth studies at Brock University. Having taken an elective in Wines of the World it sparked a huge passion for her and she followed her new found love of wine as she studied Oeonology and Viticulture at Niagara College. Working in the cellar she travelled and worked in Portugal and Australia. Returning home she did a harvest at Rosehall Run in PEC before she transitioned to a front of house role. Working closely with producers and telling the stories of wine, ingredients etc became and continues to be a passion of hers. She started a role at Bruce Wine Bar which is where she met her partner Joel. In 2019 when Hannah and Joel began Sumac & Salt, a pop up food business showcasing the bounty of local farms, there wasn’t a beverage aspect to the business yet so she began honing her culinary skills developing a love for pastry and all things cooking. In 2022 She received the KML Top 30 under 30 award for outstanding achievements in the hospitality industry. Hannah and Joel opened their Farmhouse Restaurant “Down Home” in August of 2022. Where they were then honoured to be recognized in the 2024 Michelin Guide. Hannah’s newest love is gardening, growing ingredients to serve at their restaurant Down Home. She is also a huge advocate for the Canadian wine industry, finding ways to change the narrative behind Ontario wines and educating guests on how far we have come as a wine region and destination. It’s been a joy being able to dive into the region and develop relationships with Ontario winemakers, continuing to tell the stories of the producers and the everything that makes the Ontario landscape so special.
