
Jason Easton
Former Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister
Jason Easton is a former senior advisor to Prime Minister Trudeau. He provided strategic advice across a wide range of priority initiatives such as international trade and economic affairs, including Canada-US relations, national security, and intergovernmental affairs.
Joining the federal government in July 2018, Jason served as Minister Ng’s Chief of Staff until October 2023, which includes four years at International Trade. As Chief of Staff, Jason was responsible for all aspects related to implementation of the Minister’s mandate and priorities and acted as her principal advisor. Prior to this, Jason served as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Small Business in the Ontario provincial government, a role he took on after the Cabinet portfolio was created in early 2017.
Prior to his government service, Jason was serving as Director of Sales, Service & Marketing for Toronto and the GTA at General Motors of Canada, responsible for GM’s turnaround plan in the largest consumer marketing area in the country. Jason first started at GM as an engineer in the Oshawa Assembly Plant in 2004. He then moved into public affairs and communications from 2006 to 2014, building significant expertise from experiences both inside and outside the company, including as the lead for international trade policy in Canada from 2011 to 2014. In 2014, Jason became Director of Strategy and Business Transformation, joining the company’s executive leadership team, and in 2015, took on his last assignment in sales, service and marketing, before departing for government service.
Jason holds a Master of Global Automotive and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying cycling and skiing with his family in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
